Your May 2020 XTON Access Manager Newsletter!

We hope everyone is safe and healthy during these difficult times. At Xton, the development team has been working remotely to enhance the XTAM product. This month our team added:

  • Video & Event Recordings for RDP Client Sessions
  • New Behavior Profile Rules
  • Persistent XTAM Shell Sessions
  • Web URL Launcher for native RDP and SSH Client Connections on macOS

Be sure to check out our popular articles on Improving Remote Access Security; MFA and Shared Accounts; or 5 Truths About PAM Software. Details on all the XTAM updates are below.

XTAM now supports full RDP proxy video and event recording (keystrokes, clipboard and file transfers) when users connect with their native RDP client of choice. This is done without requiring any agents, extensions or custom launchers. This allows Administrators to secure privileged sessions and accounts without compromising security and auditing. Users can conveniently connect to XTAM’s proxy using any standard RDP client, both desktop or mobile devices. Once a user completes their XTAM RDP Proxy session, the video playback is immediately available for review in your web browser or it can be converted to a video file for offline access.

When exiting or logging out of an SSH Proxy session started from the XTAM Secure Shell Interface, you will now return to the main menu rather than disconnecting entirely. This enables users to connect once to the XTAM Shell and remain connected when connecting or disconnecting from individual SSH sessions.

XTAM introduces several new behavior event analytics rules for additional security and monitoring. These new rules include Login and Failed Login Attempts to monitor and block incorrect or frequent authentication attempts. We also added Session Duration and Excessive Session Activity rules to terminate sessions where users perform many actions during sessions or within selected periods of time.

Web URL Launcher for native RDP and SSH Client Connections on macOS
For user’s on macOS, there is now a convenient option under the Connect menu to automatically launch a native RDP or SSH client session for this record. When used on macOS, you will be prompted to launch your default client which will then be populated with the information required to make a ‘one-click’ connection with the XTAM proxy session for this record.
Additional XTAM Extensions and Enhancements
Over the past 30 days we have made a number of additional enhancements to XTAM. These include:

  • Updated XTAM’s cipher suites for stronger security;
  • Added an option to define separate SMTP and IMAP servers;
  • Extended the RDP Proxy to support multi-hop deployments;
  • Expanded the System Administrator’s About screen to include more system information; and
  • Added grouped sections to the Scripts and Record Types pages for easier navigation.
