The Xton development team made several enhancements to the XTAM product. This includes:

  • Generate temporary Amazon Web Services API access keys for just-in-time access.
  • Administrative Messages to provide users with a message of the day.
  • Simplify management of remote Unix with Native PPK key support.
  • Manage dynamic credentials for shared records in personal vaults.

Be sure to read our latest blog, Data Security and CCPA Compliance.

Details on all the XTAM updates are below.

XTAM can now generate AWS STS Temporary AWS API access keys (Access Key Id and Secret Key pair) for a specified duration based on the provided superuser access keys. The option enables Just-in-Time access for users, applications, command line utilities and automation software to communicate with Amazon Web Services with least possible standing privileges.

Administrative Messages gives system administrators the ability to define a message (Message of the Day) that will be displayed for all system users on the record list screen. The option provides a mechanism for system administrators to quickly communicate maintenance times, configuration and policy updates, new vaults, folders or records created, or new software options available to all system users.

To further increase the management of remote Unix servers, administrators can now use Private Keys in PPK format without the need to convert it to PEM RSA format before uploading the key to the record or using it in discovery query. PPK format is a private key format generated by the popular Windows SSH client PuTTY. The update also enables the option to rotate PPK public keys on the remote servers which accelerates adoption of PAM best practices without disturbing existing access workflows.

Discovery Queries can now dynamically load a managed account stored in the XTAM Vault. This allows XTAM to provide greater control of this privileged account like password rotation while still utilizing it for continuous discovery queries.

Users can now manage dynamic credentials for shared records in their personal vaults. The option safely relaxes security limits for related records managed in the same vault by allowing users to manage dynamic credentials in their personal vaults. The option simplifies data architecture for Managed Service Providers (MSP) with requirements to maintain named accounts to access client networks.
